Encouraging Your Kids To Work Out At Home Due To COVID-19

Due to COVID-19, almost everyone is under stay-at-home orders. However, just because your kids can’t go outside doesn’t mean they don’t need to exercise. Here are some great tips to get your kids moving at home.

  • Be a role model

The best way to encourage your kids to work out is to lead by example. Young children love to imitate their parents. If they see you working out, they will inevitably want to join in. This is also the best time to instill an active lifestyle into your kids. If you let them see you working out regularly at home, they may pick up this good habit that will follow them into adulthood.

  • Introduce new exercises

Take advantage of this time when the whole family is at home to teach your kids some new skills. Not only would it be educational, it would help to relieve the restlessness of being at home. For example, you can teach them how to do a handstand or a dead hang. After all, who says staying at home needs to be boring?

  • Add fun into the equation

Working out at home will help your kids to keep fit as well as enhance their endurance, speed, balance, co-ordination, flexibility and strength. However, the most important thing is that they have fun. They should see regular exercise as a chore. If they develop a love for physical activity at a young age, it will help them to lead an active lifestyle in the future. Furthermore, a healthy attitude towards exercise will aid them in building self-esteem and self-confidence as well as help them in making friends.

  • Anything goes

There is no limit or guideline to the kind of exercise that your kids can take part in. Any activity that can get them moving, laughing and away from a screen is good enough. There are so many possibilities and most of them do not even require any special equipment or expertise. Some great examples include hide and seek, tug of war, tag, or even a treasure hunt!

  • Workout as a family

Exercising is always the most fun when you do it as a family. It can also be an opportunity for everyone to bond and make some lasting memories. There are many ways to exercise together at home. You could do yoga together or have a cardio workout in the yard. To really ensure that the whole family gets some effective exercise in, you can even put together a family fitness program to make it a regular event.

  • Turn it into a competition

Take advantage of your kids’ competition spirits to trick them into exercising. You can challenge them to a dance off to discover the best dancer in the family or a plank competition to determine the strongest abs in the house. Whatever activity you choose, it is guaranteed to be great fun for you and your kids. On top of that, the urge to win will ensure that your kids put their best effort into the competition, which will undoubtably lead to them getting in a good workout.
